Paolo Di Canio was on target in Lazio's hard-fought 3-2 win over Siena at the Stadio Olimpico.

Siena had already conquered the capital earlier this season with a 3-2 win at Roma and hoped to maintain their admirable away record, but Lazio were confident after coming off their first away win of the campaign. The Tuscans welcomed Tomas Locatelli, Francesco Colonnese and Igor Tudor back from injury, though Alberto was sidelined.

Lazio fans staged a protest against President Claudio Lotito and stayed outside the stadium for the opening 15 minutes of the match. It was an emotional moment for former Biancocelesti star Paolo Negro.

Paolo Di Canio got on the end of Cesar's deflected cross, then Antonio Mirante performed a tough save on Igli Tare's point-blank volley and a Di Canio long-range effort.

Lazio finally took a deserved lead on the stroke of half-time, as Tare's header was parried into the path of fan favourite Di Canio for a simple tap-in. It was the former Premiership star's first Serie A goal of the season.

Cesar could've made it 2-0 after the break with a great solo run, but his shot flashed across the face of goal from a very tight angle.

However, Siena equalised with one of their first chances of the game. Erjon Bogdani rose above the Lazio defenders to nod in a Paolo Foglio cross from the right.

It didn't last long, as Cesar gathered Goran Pandev's cut-back and slammed a precise angled drive into the far corner of the net for his first goal of the season. The Brazilian had been a doubt with injury and is at the centre of a contract dispute with Lazio.

Cesar limped off with a muscular problem soon after and Angelo Peruzzi beat away Roberto D'Aversa's attempt.

Siena went very close to an equaliser on 77 minutes, as a curling Foglio free kick thumped the top of the crossbar.

Tare put the victory beyond doubt moments later. Vergassola was dispossessed by Pandev and he threaded through for a cool Tare finish.

However, in stoppages Siena re-opened the match with a bizarre goal. Molinaro's cross took Peruzzi by surprise and the 'keeper accidentally flapped it back into his own net.
