First of all, la squadra, has performed a lot better than I had expected. Far better, in fact. For that I am very happy and pleased. I look to every game with optimism, something I didnt believe I would in the beginning of this year. And now we are here... in the dying moments of 2005 and what do we have?
In my humle opinion – a huge success!
After what we have been through over the last few years, who could honestly believe we would be on the upper half of Serie A? OK, we are a bit fortunate that of some strange reason Serie A consists of more teams than ever before – and more poor teams than ever before. The newcomers didnt even have the time or chance to build up a competitive team before kick-off... THAT can only happen in Italy... I for certain didnt expect this success, and that has nothing to do with (dis-) trust in the team or (lack of) trust in the players. That is only a pure economic standpoint.
Sure, Claudio Lotito doesnt pick many points in this forum, that I have understood. But I do respect him as a businessman with a mission. Then if he pisses Milos75 and Cecco off – so be it. Desctruction is easy compared to construction. He have given la Societa a second chance and for that I respect him. Life is not a dance on roses, and saving SS Lazio from the ruins that was hours away from collapsing wasnt the easiest task to take on. Lotito is a businessman, and a businessmans mission in life is to make money grow – cash management. I can easily find a thousand other, easier, ways to make money grow, than doing it through our footballclub.
I have to comment the di Canio issue... I have seen a bizarr discussion going on in this forum... with several threads closed (no, I wont add fuel to the fire). But seeing 15 or 20 year old kids making a statement or comment about something they cant even spell, almost makes me puke. The guy admitted he’s a --the word is censored, but I guess everyone knows what I mean (news to whom?) and from that I think everyone can make their own statement. I am fully aware politics in forbidden in this forum so I wont develop this any further. However, I have made my standpoint perfectly clear – I have always have had it. Yet, everyone if free to have whatever opinion they like. Respect follows accordingly...
As for our lack of stars... I admit I dont have the same knowledge about our present players as I had a few years ago... Nedved, Veron, Salas and Nesta was kind of easier to follow... if you know what I mean. But I have started to like players like Behrami (whom I never heard of before he came to Lazio) and Tomasso Rocchi. I always mention our stars Oddo and Cesar when people ask me who plays in Lazio nowadays... and my experience is that Oddo and Cesar are fairly unknown – at least in my part of the world. Whatabout Peruzzi, then? “Does he still plays? He played like 15 years ago...?”
I am still proud of MY team – Lazio. Nobody can take that away from me. There are a few players I like and a few players that I dont like. I dont care. I get happy when MY team wins and unhappy when WE loose. I am just an average fan of la Lazio. I will always be. That is my nature. I have had many good memories with Lazio, many great moments in my life. Therefore SS Lazio will always be MINE, in my way.
Its like a wife – I love her to death. But any wrongdoings will certainly be discussed at the dinnertable.
Sometimes that means sleeping on the sofa – and sometimes it means... you know.
