<P>Cole in new injury anguish <BR> <BR>COMEBACK KO ... Cole's outing in the Gunners' reserves is over<BR>ASHLEY COLE went home on crutches last night after breaking down just FOUR minutes into his latest comeback match. </P><P>The Arsenal and England left-back was hoping to make a Premiership return at Fulham on Saturday and a Champions League comeback against Real Madrid next week.</P>
<P>But now his Gunners’ plans — and England World Cup hopes — could be in tatters after he damaged his left ankle in a 2-1 reserve team defeat by Tottenham.</P>
<P>Cole, 25, has played just an HOUR of competitive football since the start of October after suffering a fractured right foot and a thigh muscle injury.</P>
<P>He limped out of yesterday’s action following a firm but fair challenge by young striker Andy Barcham and is due to be out for another three weeks.</P>
<P>Cole refused to speak as he boarded the team coach on crutches. </P>
<P>But keeper Manuel Almunia, who was close to the incident, said: “I’m not sure exactly what happened or what the future holds.</P>
<P>“Ashley is a very important player for the club but he went over on his ankle and it doesn’t look so good.”</P>
<P>A Highbury spokesman said: “He seems to have sprained his left ankle. It’s not a recurrence of the old injury. But there’s no telling at this stage as to how long he will be out for.”</P>
<P>OUCH ... Cole gets caught last night<BR>The further loss of Cole is a major blow to the Gunners’ fading hopes of finishing fourth and securing the final Champions League spot.</P>
<P>Boss Arsene Wenger’s side lost their 10th Premiership game of the season against Blackburn at Ewood Park on Saturday and now go to Fulham this weekend without a recognised left-back to choose from as Gael Clichy is also ruled out until at least April. </P>
<P>Arsenal could be faced with the stark possibility of having to win the Champions League in order to play elite European football next season.</P>
<P>Boss Wenger admitted: “Of course the Real Madrid victory is a huge incentive to us for playing in the Champions League again.</P>
<P>“But that is long term. If you want to get back in there you have to take care of results in the Premiership and for me at the moment it is a big worry.”</P>
