FX 夏季主推的新剧《Damages／裂痕》是一部与众不同的惊险律师剧。首先它的两个主角都是女性（以女性律师为第一主角是下个播出季各电视台律师剧的重要特点之一）；其次，它主要反映了以弱对强、反抗强权的故事。这两个元素结合在一起，很容易让人想起奥斯卡影后朱利娅·罗伯茨主演的电影《永不妥协／Erin Brockovich》。但是不同的是，这部电视剧增加了惊险元素，而且女主角本身也是一位备受争议的律师。
人人敬畏但是也备受争议的著名女律师Patty Hewes(Glenn Close扮演)高调开办了一家"Hewes联合律师事务所"，并精心挑选Ellen Parsons(Rose ByrneDmgsWallpaper_3_800.jpg扮演)为自己第一年的合伙人。但是两个女人都没有想到，这将是她们生活的转折点。Ellen最近和男友David Connor (Noah Bean扮演)订婚了，但她在法律界还只是一个无名小辈，成为Patty这种名律师的同事并接受她及她最信任的另一名资深律师Tom Shayes (Tate Donovan扮演)的指导，让她有点受宠若惊。一开始，她有些飘飘然地觉得自己踏上了成功的捷径，但她很快意识到，要想获得成功，付出的代价远大于她的想像。
当前，"Hewes联合律师事务所"所处理的焦点案件是Arthur Frobisher(Ted DmgsWallpaper_4_800.jpgDanson 扮演)腐败案。Arthur Frobisher是美国最富有的CEO之一，有钱、有权、有名、有势。但是一向以"不服输"和"敢打硬仗"而闻名的Patty接受顾客的委托后，准备亲自处理这个案件。她的目标不仅仅是对Arthur Frobisher提起诉讼、打赢这场官司，而是最终要让Arthur Frobisher破产，彻底将其毁灭。Arthur Frobisher当然不是好惹的人物，他信心满满地请来法律界另一位资深律师Ray Fiske (Zeljko Ivanek扮演)与Patty对簿公堂，自认为无人能够撼动自己的地位。当Patty与Arthur Frobisher及Ray Fiske在法庭上较劲时，Ellen也将从中学到：打赢一场官司需要付出的东西太多了－－金钱、名誉甚至生命。
Talk about an hour of intriguing television - the commercial-free pilot for Damages, premiering last night on FX, certainly was that AND a bag of chips. Thanks to excellent writing, superb acting, lush cinematography and cojones to spare, this thought-provoking series promises to be at the very least a sleeper hit for the channel.
Nothing is what it seems in the pilot episode; we think we're getting one set of realities, one set of characters, but under the surface far more is going on than meets the eye. In fact, at the end of the pilot, lethally provocative questions are raised, forcing viewers to tune in again if they were the least intrigued. I was and I will be.
