West Ham boss Curbishley wants Europe push
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is aiming for Europe after losing out in the FA Cup.
The Hammers reached the FA Cup final two seasons ago but will not repeat those heroics this term after crashing out 1-0 to Man City on Wednesday.
Curbishley now wants his team to focus on getting into Europe, and has set his sights on a top-six league finish.
He told the Daily Star: "It was a big disappointment on Wednesday because we were really up for the FA Cup.
"We came away from that defeat and the talk between the players was that if we can get a result on Sunday, we might catch the teams above us.
"We are looking forward to all the games and pushing for a place in the top six come the end of the season. We can see a couple of teams above us and, if we get the right result against City, we will be able to see them as well. Look at Portsmouth and Blackburn, who are immediately above us. We can catch them. We are looking up now rather than below us.
"We have given ourselves a base and now we can push on. We can all see where we can get to in the league."
Curbishley wants his team to build on the best defensive record outside the top four, having conceded only 20 goals all season.
He wants his side to start taking the chances they are creating.
He added: "I learned from the cup game against City that we have to start taking our chances. We dominated for long periods of the match but did not score.
"The defence has been terrific all season, I am now asking the rest of the players to help us out a bit.
"We need to have a lead we can hold on to because when we do get in that position, we look a good side.
"We are decent defensively but have not been prolific in scoring goals, although we have been missing some of our offensive players through injury."
