Blackburn boss Hughes: Conceding first always difficult
Blackburn failed to make it four successive Premiership wins as they gained a fortunate1-1 draw at home to struggling Middlesbrough.
Rovers enjoyed the majority of the possession but rarely troubled a well marshalled Boro defence which looked to be comfortably holding on to a 12th minute lead given to them by David Wheater.
But a slice of fortune saw Blackburn draw level with 15 minutes remaining. Jason Robert's miscued shot fell kindly for substitute Matt Derbyshire to side foot home from six yards.
Yet the visitors should have clinched the points long before Rovers grabbed a fortuitous leveller.
Jermaine Alliadiere had two good chances in the second half when all the opportunities fell to Middlesbrough. Tuncay Sanli failed to connect with the goal at his mercy and Wheater almost had a second but his header crashed against the cross bar.
Deep into injury time Alliadiere had a free header but failed to hit the target.
For Blackburn, apart from the goal, only David Bentley's second half free kick which clipped a post posed any threat to the visitor's.
"Another game we have conceded first which makes it very difficult at home to then dictate the pace and momentum of the game," said Rovers boss Mark Hughes.
"I was disappointed with the free kick decision which lead to their goal but then we failed to defend it correctly and found ourselves one-nil down.
"Second half we were better after a flat first half and got back on level terms.
"With pushing forward we left ourselves open at the back and on another day Middlesbrough will feel they should have left with three points.
"But we'll take the point and we are now unbeaten in five Premiership games which is a decent return."
