Lazio are shopping at the World Cup and have their eye on Germany’s Gerald Asamoah and Swiss midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta. The Biancocelesti look set to part company with Paolo Di Canio and Igli Tare this summer, so reinforcements are needed upfront. It’s claimed that the club had scouts at the German World Cup camp this week to watch the 28-year-old at work and were impressed, but it’ll be difficult to prise him away from Schalke 04, as he recently renewed his contract until 2008. Asamoah was born in Ghana, but moved to Germany as a child and scored on his international debut in a 2-0 win over Slovakia in 2001. So far, he has only played 18 minutes in the 2006 World Cup. The other target at the tournament is Swiss midfielder Barnetta, who would relish the opportunity to play in Serie A, as he hails from an Italian background. He recently turned 21 and is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen. He was a teenage prodigy for Swiss outfit St Gallen and has scored three international goals in 17 appearances.
