Derby chief Birch: Plenty of time to build squad
New Derby County chief Trevor Birch insists they're not at a disadvantage in the transfer market after entering the Premiership via the playoffs.
"I don't think it's too much of a hindrance," he said. "We've got a decent amount of time until the start of the season, so I don't think it's that much of a disadvantage.
"When I was at Chelsea, I spent &;pound;120m in six weeks so I was used to signing players quickly in a short period of time, although I'm not sure our budget extends quite that far.
"In my early days, the job will be about looking to sign the players and deal with any wage negotiations that need to take place and those are very important issues to deal with immediately.
"We have to look at that list with Billy (Davies) and we realise we have to act quickly.
"He hasn't physically given me a list of players but I'm sure he's got one in his mind and players he wants to talk to me about.
"It's about making as much money available as we possibly can to compete and retain Premiership status. That's the goal."
